6 days marangu route

Marangu Route is the most popular and easiest route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The route is used by almost 60% of all climbers and is only the route that offers mountain huts with solar power light, and it is also proper for those tourists who don’t have many practices in climbing the mountains. The most important, you should know that the huts are designed as dormitory style which accommodates up to 5 pax per one hut.

DAY 1: MOSHI/ARUSHA TO MARANGU GATE (1860M) TO MANDARA HUT (2715), DISTANCE: APPROXIMATELY 8.1 KM AND HIKING TIME: APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS

On the first day, depart at 9 am from the location of your hotel either Arusha or Moshi and proceed to Marangu Gate, and you will arrive around 12 pm, this will depend on your pickup location. The route passes through the village of Marangu, which settled on the lower slopes of the mountain Kilimanjaro with many small coffees and banana plantations. Consume about an hour at the gate while Reality Wild Adventure Chief Guide registers and arrange your climb and all porters.

After finish all registration at the gate, you now leave the Park gate and ascend on a cleared ridge trail through the rain forest. The forest, suffused with fog and dropping with beards of moss, is also where most of Kilimanjaro’s animals found. You might be lucky to see a glimpse of the thumbless black and white colobus monkeys jumbling into the lush trees. About 5 hours later, you will arrive your first stop for the day, the Mandara Hut and have a rest. Every hut offers six to eight sleeper bunks and light produced by solar power. Mandara camp can accommodate a maximum of 60 climbers, and fresh water reaches the field area via pipes from springs above the campgrounds. There are also flush toilets installed in the back the main hut. After resting a while, your guide can take you to the Maundi Crater where you can enjoy incredible views of the inside Kenya. DAY 2: MANDARA HUT (2715M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3705M), DISTANCE: APPROXIMATELY 12 KM AND HIKING TIME: APPROXMATLY 4 to 6HOURS

The day here commences with a fresh early breakfast and shortly after you have left Mandara Hut, you will enter the treeline where nature changes to bushes. We climb firmly into the moorland zone, containing giant heathers and unique stands of groundsel, to finally reach the hut complex at Horombo (3,705 m) at approximately 4 to 6 hours. From the hut, you will have incredible views facing Mawenzi, Kibo summit, and the Masai steppe. Here you can have a great rest, hot washing water. Meal and accommodation at Horombo Hut. DAY 3 HOROMBO HUT (3,705 M) TO ZEBRA ROCKS (3,980 M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3,705 M) AND HIKING TIME: APPROXMATLY 4 TO 6HOURS

Horombo hut is a hamlet of huts landed on a small plateau, with buildings similar to Mandara huts, but with a total capacity of 120 climbers. Horombo is usually a bustling with climbers, guides, and porters, an atmosphere of experience and enthusiasm. This extra day and night at Horombo are for additional acclimatization. Acclimatization should not be minimized as it considerably increases your possibilities of reaching the summit. After finishing your breakfast, you will begin away on a 2 to 4 hour trek to Zebra Rocks (3,980 m). The characteristic black and white lines give the rock structure its name. On your return to Horombo Hut, you will have lunch. You can relax in the afternoon and recover your energy for the trek the next day. Meal and accommodation at Horombo Hut. DAY 4: HOROMBO HUT (3705M) TO KIBO HUT 4720M), DISTANCE: APPROXIMATELY 9.6 KM AND HIKING TIME: APPROXMATLY 5 TO 6HOURS

After breakfast at Horombo Huts, you will now proceed your climbing within the Alpine desert environment. Today’s step is hard and challenging. From Horombo, there are two routes to the “Saddle” which leads to the area placed among the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. There is an upper route and lower route to pick it, and the top route should be very standard as you will have climbed utmost of it the previous day (on your acclimatization hike) towards Mawenzi hut. The suggested lower route is enormously comfortable and almost an hour shorter, and it also gives the last watering point at 4130m. The day end today is Kibo Hut, and it should end in about 5 to 6 hours. Today’s night is an early night to get enough rest at least go to the bed around 1900 hours, and you will work up at around 23:00 hour. Meal and accommodation at Kibo Hut. DAY 5: KIBO HUT (4720M) TO UHURU PEAK (5895M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3705M), DISTANCE: APPROXIMATELY 5.5KM ASCENT AND 15 KM DESCENT AND HIKING TIME: 7 TO 8 HOURS TO REACH UHURU PEAK, 6 TO 8 HOURS TO DESCEND TO HOROMBO

Today is very special and hard and challenging day, the summit grade. You will start in the middle of the night around 23:30hours, you will commence the long and arduous trek to the top in the dark. The first part of the path consists of a stone pathway to the Hans Meyer Cave (5150m), also a good resting spot. The track then twisted up to Gillman’s point (5 681m), which placed on the crater rim. This part is very abrupt and steep with a lot of stone, needing a great physical and mental effort. This is apparently the most difficult part of the whole route. Do the Kili walk and walk gently. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point. Shortly you will have forgotten the cold of the night and following extra 1 to 2 hours, and you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m. Now you are on the “Roof of Africa”. Total enthusiasm and happiness, you made it. The climate status on the summit will determine how long you will be able to spend for taking photographs, before descent back to Kibo hut.

The descending to Horombo hut is very quicker than climbing to Uhuru. You use a total time of approximately 14 hours walking, so you need to prepare yourself for a tough day. The descent way in the same direction and the lava ash will now have melted and given for a fast descent. Following 1 to 2-hour break, you will be on your way downward to the Horombo Hut wherever you will reach in the afternoon. Meal and accommodation at Horombo Hut. DAY 6: HOROMBO HUT (3705M) TO MARANGU GATE (1860M), DISTANCE: APPROXIMATELY 19.7 KM AND HIKING TIME: APPROXMATLY 6HOURS

After breakfast you will proceed your descent, crossing the Mandara hut, down to the Marangu gate. Shortly you will again be in the lush tropical rainforest and after about 6 hours of descent, you will be back at the Marangu gate (1,860 m). At Marangu gate, you register your name so that you can receive your certificate for successful climbers to the Kilimanjaro Summit. After getting your certification then you will say goodbye to your mountain crew before a drive to your next destination. Meal plan Lunch only
